You don't need XBL Gold to play FFXI on the 360!

I don't know why people keep saying this but it just keeps coming up so I'm gonna post this everywhere I can. I have called POL customer service and Xbox Customer Care and representatives from both places confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XI will be accessible through the free Xbox Live Silver service and the only additional cost to play will be the monthly fee charged by Square Enix which in the U.S. is $12.95 for the first Content I.D. and $1.00 for each additional Content I.D.

So there you go, tell everyone you know. Do that whole "Pay it forward" thing and MAYBE the people who keep saying that you need to pay $50 a year on top of Monthly Fees will kindly shut the f*** up.

when I get enough money for a 360 however I shall not get the gold service

I have the gold memship now because i play other 360 games aswell but ive noticed that once i am conected to the Playonline server and into the actual game I can go and sign out of the Xboxlive server and my gameplay wont be affected. So nope ya dont need it, its only necessary to first log onto the playonline server
