Today's patching of the game was to cure an Exploit that allowed almost unlimited Stealing, with a high (100%?) success rate and no recast timer.
Had the exploiters behaved like those who bought / were given Gil during the holidays the price of Gold and Silver Beastcoins would have plummeted like a Monty Python sheep.
As a level 48 Goldsmith, I have been watching the price of Gold Beastcoins. No such thing happened.
Therefore: exploiters are smarter than Gil buyers.

Its not gilsellers and buyers totally. Its also the greedy players who believe that if they don't have a "Insert uber overpriced item name here" they can't level that cause inflation. So they raise prices to buy the limited supply of items raising the cost to crafters who then have to raise their prices and it just keeps going.

Hehe whilst I agree with you partly the inflation of crafting material can be quite erratic and of course depends on supply and demand, less people crafting with those materials means price drops so yeah if those exploiters had too much they'd know not to put all their stuff up immediately and drop the price like gilsellers tend to. So Exploiters are also smarter than gilsellers aswell as gilbuyers
Hehe nice analogy btw
