Try feeding water crystals. It seems you have a chance of growing a crystal by using the kind that dominates it to feed the plant.

I think this is a great idea. Perhaps the best way to gain light crystals. Who wants to be a gardener? And how often must the gardener check up on the plants?

I'm not sure :) I can check around for some more info. Also I could do it since I rarely stray far from my mog house on account of all my AH dealings I constantly have going on.

I might start setting a mule to doing some of this when I get to the brass pot making stage.

I just made some garlic with a herb seed and lightning crystal.

The first time I guess I missed it and didnt get to feed a crystal or harvest. Second time I did get the garlic.

I'm unsure how long you have to wait, someone said 3 game days, but it was more like 1 or 2 rl days. Seemed to take several rl days before I could feed too.
The most wasted day of all is one in which we have not laughed.

I'd really like to garden things. I've been toying with the idea of generating crystals in a rotation (esp light ones), but I'd be happy to grow other things people need. I just need to buy some pots to get started. ^^;

I've bought two pots already, and have started growing some things. I plan to expand to six pots by the end of next week. I guess this is my official declaration of being a gardener? ^^

If you want something, let me know. If you have the seeds to get what you need, it would really be helpful. :) The crystals are easy enough to come by, unless you need something with dark. I don't seem to get many of these.

So keep me busy, okay? ^^

It's been my experiece that feeding light crystals will get you dark crystals and the opposite will be true as well. There also seems to be a connection with examining the plant during various stages of growth as to what it yields. I haven't had the time to really prove that theory or not, but it seems that it is valid. Also the day you harvest seems to an effect on how much you end up getting.

I know it may be a bit wierd to revive this, but a Elvaan monk friend of mine told Shadowneko (and he told me) about this site that looks really good that's all about gardening tips:

http://www.swapsonian.com/pikko/

I hope this helps the gardener kitties of MP!! (And someone should add THAT to the links page too, never mind that we got the url from a elvaan! and that it looks like a taru wrote it)

I garden to make 90% of my gil, so I do it a lot.

I strongly recommend having 10 pots, devote about 3-4 to fast moneymakers (Fire crystals, wind crystals), 1-2 to making saplings from cuttings, and the other 5 to growing saplings into the big ticket items (elemental ore, gold leaves, gold ore)

Use Pikko's website for recipes, I won't post them here, but good luck.

Oh, and yes, check your plants once every RL day at least.

Gardening

Post by Chayala »

Hi, I'm a new mithra to the boards, and i've been gardening for quite a while. Yes, fire crystals are made from water. Another fun fact, lightening is made from earth=)
If you are a crafter, you can save alot of money growing these yourself<I've noticed the best to grow these in are brass pots, buyable for 900 gil in bastok with good fame ^_^ ...pick up 7 extra to throw in a mules AH in sandy...for 1500...make a tiny bit of extra cash...>
Besides getting 10 pots, You'll prolly wanna get a table if you're going to be doing alot of gardening, esp crystal gardening, because i've noticed crystals are a much more common yield when you check your plant every day and a half, and with the table's gardening moghancement, you can do that without worry, since your plants won't ever wilt away in that time. Although that might just be luck. Make sure to time your plantings so you always harvest on a full moon, and so you always plant on opposite days<plant light crystals on light day Waxing Gibius, and harvest on dark day, full moon for best results>
I run 30 pots atm, 20 grow saplings 5 grow elemental ores<dropping in price> =/ and 5 i use for playing around with crystals for my crafting.
Before Going into Saplings or anything that takes a long time to grow/alot of cash, i'd suggest doing some crystals to see if you have the patience to be a gardener. Well, hope this advice helps=)

I've just seriously gotten into alchemy, and finding myself chronically short on crystals just plain sucks. (pick up parties around level 40 NEVER have enough signets on and the randomness of distribution just blows) So, I've begun to have my mule garden.

I'm from Bastok, my mule's in Sandy. I was able to pick up some pots on the cheap and turn them into some fast gil in the Sandy AH to fund the endeavour. And Walking saplings and gobbues and malboros tend to drop seeds like crazy when you're a Thief. So, my mule now gardens, and i've been toying with the recipies.

i also found a good resource, The Kool-Aid Garden that will let you find most recipies very easily.

Another thing, can you garden from a rent-a-room? I didn't wanna risk the time loss of setting it up and going back to Jeuno just to have the expense wilt away while i'm away from my MogHouse.

Rent-a-garden

Post by Chayala »

Chep! You can garden from rent-a-rooms, as long as you already have your pots placed in your house. But you can't start up gardening until you go home, and actually place your pots into your house, and start up your gardening that way. Hope this helps.

I splurged... my first foray into gardening ends tonite. I loaded up my mule with grain seeds and four brass flowerpots a few days ago. I should be harvesting my first crop of fire crystals tonite when the moon is full.

wish me luck.

ok, here is how you make mad gil (according to my friend who makes it ALL the time ^_^).

Brass flowerpot:
Wait until Darksday on a 50-100% moon and plant a Tree Sapling (can be found under Misc. on AH or grown). When it asks you if you want to plant a crystal, make sure you that you feed it a (insert type of crystal) on the same type of day. I.E. Fire Crystal on Fires Day, Lightning Crystal on Lightnings day, etc. If you did everything correctly, you should end up with an elemental ore. Be warned though, this guide may not be 100% accurate, and even at 100% moon, It's still a gamble. If you try this and find any more information, please, feel free to correct me ^_^.

Brass flowerpot, on lightsday plant a tree cutting. plant a light crystal 2 days after that, and another 2 more days after that and you'll reap 8 platunum nuggets 3 days after that.

scamp, thanks i always wondered dhow you do that. I'll have to try that tonite. I've got three flowerpots opening up after reaping fire crystals galore.
