All American artists try to do is copy the look of anime, but make the story actually make sense. I remember the first anime I was exposed to... Tenchi Muyo. That series is just completely... random. You sort of have an underlying story there, but the episodes and behavior of the characters just doesn't always make much sense. It's gotta come together somewhere in the realm of believability to actually be enjoyable to me.
But, of course, there are many more animes that I've seen since that I don't mind the random element in, when it appears. My favorite still is InuYasha. I wish they hadn't stopped producing the anime.
Oh well... someday I'll have the manga collection caught up to the recent releases.
