I've done this once and we won with the super-technique of... being really lucky. The guy was behind the first gate. Mobs that hugely resist all kinds of magic can still resist Nether Blast. Grand wyrms take 1/2 damage. A Besieged mob took less than 100 damage when I zapped one of those.

It seems to add Fast Cast I if you don't have it, but the difference is subtle. Black mages probably get the most benefit... they sub RDM anyway and cast lots of big slow spells.

They can't just patch in something as big as new jobs. I'd look for those in the next expansion.

Sometimes cheap is good. Curaga IV, Cure V, Regen III, Reraise III, and Shellra IV are dirt cheap because Gobbie Alchemists drop them like candy at a Halloween party.

One other possibility comes to mind. Did you walk next to the Haunt? Bound mobs will attack anything in reach... maybe someone else aggroed and used Bind or Shadowbind to hold it while they ran for the zone.

They should fix the airship passenger quest so it only gives a title the first time it's completed. Sometimes I pass up the gil just so Very Discerning Indivdual won't overwrite a title I like better.

BLM/SMN is seriously gimped. You can't backup heal at all. You can't cure statuses or sneak/invis yourself either. It's not worth it.

If you want to know some real Vana'diel history, do the Zilart missions.

Carbuncle Mitts are level 20 actually. They aren't that helpful for the mini-battles - Searing Light drops your MP to zero anyway.
