Last night Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Once again, Rush was snubbed ) and who showed up to accept the induction? Former bass player Michael Anthony and former lead singer Sammy Hagar. Why? Guitarist Eddie van Halen's in rehab (again ), his brother and the band's drummer Alex had better things to do (???), Eddie's son, Wolfgang, who replaced Michael Anthony, is probably at home doing homework, David Lee Roth refused to play because Velvet Revolver didn't know "Jump", and the guards were ordered to shoot former lead singer Gary Cherone on sight
The worst part of the whole thing is THE F***ING RONETTES MADE IT IN!!! A goddamn girl group with interchangeable members made it in before RUSH!!!
So yeah, the only founding member of Van Halen who bothered to show up was recently replaced by a fifteen-year-old. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is officially now as important as the Grammys.

My favorite morning radio guys (who are as furious as I am over Rush's latest snub and played Rush songs for an hour in protest) said its not even a tourist attraction. You go there when you've got a meeting or a convention in Cleveland and you have a few hours to kill.

In defense of guys though, I'm appalled at poser chicks in music. I mean cmon some of the greatest female singsers, Paula Abdool (sp and right now idc.), cindy lauper, maddonna (her early stuff not this new crap she's doing.) were magnificent, they stood for somethng, that girls can do this too. unfortently tards like spear britteny, christina underwear, jessica simpson (Reba's better country then you missy.), avril "Punk wannabe", no doubt's "love me im emo." make it impossible these days.
A few good female artists are still around thankfully, Amy Lee for one (idc, her voice is good no matter what.) and Miss Christina from Lacuna Coil, other then that....
and about Van Halen in rehab, let me say this:
Its amazing how many great classic rockers abused drugs so much, are still alive today, maybe its fate who says, you need to stick around and reguide music, or something. But enjoy them while their still alive, becuase 30 years from now will the name "Van Halen" or "Mick Jager" or "Steven Taylor" even be remembered?

The reason Eddie van Halen is so beloved and respected is because he is an incredible guitarist, composer, and pianist. He's also an egotistical ass who can't get along with his band's lead singers, but still. The same thing can apply to any number of musicians out there. Sure, they may have horrid personalities but its their music we respect.
KarouKaniyashia, girl groups are interchangeable. Look at Destiny's Child, for example. Take Beyonce, add in 2-3 more girls and you got a girl band. Same thing with boy bands. Take someone like Justin Timberlake, add in a few more guys, and there's your boy band. These "bands" are manufactured and rock is full of them, too. Take Scott Stapp, add in a generic rock group with a guitarist who knows basic chords, and you have Creed.
Groups like The Ronettes don't deserve a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame especially when countless other deserving artists have yet to be inducted. That is what makes that place a joke. If Celine Dion had been inducted I would be just as furious. She's a goddamn jukebox! I also feel the same about Elton John and Meatloaf, for the record even though I do like their music. Making a career out of singing someone else's songs isn't being a musician in my opinion.
A musician is someone who wants to share their experiences in life with others through songs. David Lee Roth wrote "Jump" after he passed a group of onlookers encouraging a suicidal man on top of a building to kill himself by shouting "You might as well jump." "Panama" was written for a stripper he fell in love with. Motley Crue's songs were all about their wild partying ways. "Girls, Girls, Girls" is an ode to the band's favorite brothels and stripclubs and "Kickstart My Heart" was inspired by bassist Nikki Sixx's near-fatal heroin overdose.
Speaking of heroin, most of the songs written by Layne Staley of Alice In Chains and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana deal with their addiction to heroin and Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis wrote "Under the Bridge" about his relapse after successfully completing rehab for heroin addiction.
Axl Rose of "Guns 'N Roses" wrote "Sweet Child of Mine" for his girlfriend and "November Rain" was written about the end of their relationship along with "Don't Cry." In fact, almost every song from GNR's first four albums were either about Axl's girlfriend or the band's experience's in the LA club scene.
All of these people wrote songs about their unique experiences in life. Their songs aren't just songs; they're stories filled with joy and pain. They convey their experiences and feelings through their words and use music to enhance the emotions. A group of teenagers who have been picked for their sex appeal and groomed for stardom singing songs written by gay Swedish men can't convey emotion like these people can. Its like someone who has never killed a person telling a story about murder. Unless you've experienced it, its hard to properly convey the emotions.
That is why I don't respect people like Britney Spears and all the other manufactured artists.
As for Darkmattre's question, Rush is a Canadian rock band that has been actively recording and performing for well over thirty years and has had the same three members for thirty of those years. If you're interested in Rush I highly recommend checking out Moving Pictures and Power Windows. Both albums are "Newbie friendly" because they don't contain the 20-minute-plus epic songs Rush is known for, yet display the depth of lyrical and compositional talent the band is known for. Plus, Moving Pictures has Yyz, my favorite instrumental piece of all time.

Rock isn't manufactured as such. There's no Rock or Metal Idol or anything of the like.
There's a very big difference between Rock and "Pop". That being Rock artists/groups play their own instruments and write their own music, only thing these so-called "pop-artists" do is strut around the stage.
Then you get the in betweens, people that want to be rock but are so blatently pop you can tell by their stupid lyrics and simplistic music. E.g. Avril, Busted (disbanded), McFly (Busted clone).
Hats off to Avril's band though, they managed to play a very decent cover of Fuel even though her voice is a complete mismatch for that song or any Metallica song for that matter
