How furious am I? Very!

So there's this book and DVD out called "The Secret" and apparently whoever made it is making a s***load of cash off of the people who buy that kind of crap. Wanna know how big this is? They featured it on Oprah a few weeks back.

Why am I furious? "The Secret" is the thing I have been preaching all of my life: Think positive. Why the hell didn't I cash in on this? WHY?!?!

Instead of getting dressed in my modest apartment and going to my job in my modest sedan to come home to my roommate and his Army buddies playing GRAW 2 in the living room I could be living in a mansion having sex with gorgeous European lingerie models on a giant pile of cash before getting dressed, having a gourmet breakfast, and doing whatever I damn well please.

Why didn't I write a novel around my brilliant advice then make a DVD out of it then milk the stupid masses of this world out of their hard-earned cash for common-sense advice, like Dr. Phil does.

Lol. I believe it, but for another reason. Which I won't go into detail. Lets just say it involves alot of goal making. Which is what optimistic people do all the time.

But yeah. Really... you should have done that.

So, has anyone else here had someone else cash in on their great idea?

Well, I was going to give you my not-so-crisp bills and let you have at my ex-trophy wives when I became filthy stinking rich, but if that's gonna be your attitude...

All the time. But untill it is properly packaged and marketed it ain't yours.

Jet boats and pet rocks. But they were both done better by those who got rich off them.

There was an article about it in Newsweek about how it is a really bad self-help book (deemed potentially harmful by psychologists) that is incredibly well marketed. Every detail, down to the size of the book is really good marketing that's intended to make you feel like you really are in on some kind of great secret.

Its a bad book, but I must admit if you do it correctly (As in set a long term goal, and small goals to reach it) it will work.

The universe doesn't do everything for you. You have to bitch slap the universe to make it cradle to your needs.

Yeah, but to be honest I never thought anyone would be dumb enough to actually pay for something like "The Secret."

As for positive thinking, it does work but you have to make things happen while you're positively thinking. For example, you can't sit on the couch and "Positively think" your way into a great job and marriage. Positive thinking just gives you the confidence to nail the interview and get the man/woman you desire.

Maybe that's part of my problem, too. I don't believe that the world owes me something. I believe that you have to be the one to get what you want. Maybe that's why I'm no good at selling self-help BS to the stupid masses of the world.

Positive thinking was real big the turn of the last century. Most famous book on the subject, "The Power of Positive Thinking" - Norman Vincent Peel? ~ 1920.

But some people are positive and some people are negative. Negative isn't bad per se, its just when you give an idea to a negative thinker, they think of the why nots first. With the right negative thinker, this can lead to careful preparation. Give an idea to a the impetuous positive thinker, they run off half cocked and go down in flames.

Back on ideas, I was approaching the concept of a MMON where the users created content long before I heard of Second Life or Project Entropa. But I was still thinking of a structured game, not the free form concept of SL. Oh yes, I lack the coding and Language skills to implement anything of the sort.

MMON?

I'm a negative thinker to the point of extreme pessimism

Well, you could take the most abundant resource on the planet, bottle it up and sell it.

The guy who thought of bottling water was pure genious.

Well the current thinking is that Second Lige is not a game. Although it may indeed be role playing.

Pesimists are often pleasantly surprised, while optimists constantly must overcome bitter disapointment.

Somewhere in the 70s the concept of bottled "Diet Water" was in a book as a parody. The author has a has a complaint rather simmilar to Keavy's.

You're not just selling water in a bottle. You're selling purified vitamin-enriched water in a bottle. Its not what you're selling, its how you sell it. Plus, tap water is nasty now that they add chlorine and fluoride to it.

 Logical thinking but incorrect in some cases. For instance I have yet to be pleasantly surprised in a long while.

What does the 'N' in "MMON" stand for?
