I cant F**king believe my luck. So my PX FINNALY has the new FFXI expansion. I called them ever other hour every day, checking to see if they had the expansion and they told me no....
However when I called today, they said they got some yesterday morning, and sold all 12 copies that day. I was about ready to lose my mind. But thats not what broke the straw. The thing that got me is that when I cheked the PX they not only ran out like they said. They had 50+ copies for the PS2 on stock. I have a ps2 but I dont have the original FFXI or the expansions or the gear to hook it up online. Its Just not fair. RAAAAWWWWRRRR. KITTY ANGRY!!!! KITTY SMASH!!!!
(Starts destroying everything)

I'm playing on PS2 and my problem was finding 50+ copies for PC and 360, but zilch for PS2. I went to 2 EB Games, 1 Gamestop, 1 Circuit City, and 1 Best Buy. All the stores told me that they keep selling out of their PS2 copies as soon as they get them, but Best Buy did have one copy...thank God.

Reserving dont mean s%*t in my opinion. I've seen pals who reserve and clerk is like sorry we had sold out.
Best bet is to order over internet if you dont think you'll get your info hacked. Or just hope that the store has it.

Please clarify?
The last time I was in Japan (Winter 2004/2005) Software used to be for sale in loads of stores.
I've read nothing about a new law the prohibits software manufacturers to sell their software in stores.
However I do believe you will have trouble finding US versions there, even in places like Akihabara (Tokyo), Okinawa, Den Den Town (Osaka) etc.
Best you can do is order a copy through the Playonline website or through trusted online software stores.

If you're gonna preorder also prepay. Trust me, the people that paid off their reservation in full take priority and will be guaranteed a copy. The people who paid the reservation fee only could end up high 'n dry if the store didn't receive enough.

The store I pre-order from is awesome. They only ask that I put a holding payment down and then they call me as soon as the games arrive at the door. If I can't make they hold it for me. Awesome awesome awesome.

Okay. Try to go online and enter a FPO/AP address (what ppl use for oversead japan) and see what happens. Youll seed a big message in red saying : Store policy cannot alow us to ship to your location. or something similar. Why? because Okinawa has a strict rule (not sure when it came out) that outside software from the united states is FORBIDDEN. same as meat, fruits and (forgive my languange) porn is all forbidden coming from the states.

I think its more of a protectionist thing.

The meat and fruit thing is allegedly health reasons, or preventing invasive speices. The software and porn thing is to protect local distributors and producers. Or maybe local morals.
Didn't used to be like this, at least not Japan wide. Washington State exported TONS of apples, cherries (and we NEVER see cheires here as nice as those we sell to Japan), beef, and even the occasional plane load of live, grass feed cattle, to Japan.
The Alar scare in the mid 90s gave them the excuse to cut off apple imports, the Mad Cow scare the excuse to cut off Beef imports. The apple and beef bans are still in force I believe, but they do buy timothy hay for race horses.
The rest, I think is local laws in Okinawa.

well, how about shipping it to somewhere other in japan, to a different city or post office or friend that you can import stuff too.

Or get a friend to buy it for you in the US and mail it to you.
As far as I know there are no restrictions on having software, books, cd's or whatever sent to you from the US or other places.
