I would probably guess the more common ones
BMG/BLM
BMG/WHM
BMG/SMN
and BMG/BRD
the first for more MP and Damage
The second for cure spells and Auto Regen
The third for WAY more MP and Auto Refresh
The 4th for Songs that restore MP and HP
Back to FFXI, Hades! Level 55 Thief! Glee!

Also theres is something else I thought of... Blue mage could verry well be a melee-mage. Most all mob specials use Tp gained by said mob. As such I can see one way for them to implement, is to have each ability (or blue spell) consume a certain amount of TP. In which case it throws out all them mage combos, making Sam the best sub

This, of course while still being cool, would suck for me, since all my mage jobs are at least 37, my Sam is lvl 1 lol

I figure that, like in most FF games with Blue Mage people and forms of Enemy Skills, it's probably going to cost MP to use skills. Having them require TP would make Blue Mages less of a mage and more of a melee fighter, as they'd have to use their swords and such to hit the mob to gain TP. While Blue Mages have always had decent physical stats, I don't think they're going to be another melee fighter, because god forbid we need MORE of them.

I'm sure /BLM or /WHM will probably end up the common sub for Blue Mages if they do in fact use MP.

its kinda neat how the blumage af had an arabian look to it. i wonder how mithra would look in it. sexy, no doubt :D
honestly, i dont see myself being a bluemage too much. and if i do, i wont be one right away. heaven save me if i hop on the bandwagon and be a bluemage from the get go.. imagine looking for a pt and seeing 15 bluemages for every other job lfp :s i might be wrong, but its kinda what i foresee.
also, i wonder what a bluemage 2 hr would be like, and what kinda abilities it would have. i am excited about a new job to use though. although i woulda liked to have seen a job like dancer instead. ahh well. :<

I think it's a good guess Blue Mage will be added judging from that video.

It is, after all, the most requested job addition since... forever...

Actually Yugi, /WAR would only really be necessary for BMG if they do need TP, at which point they would more likely sub SAM or NIN I think, or if they end up tanking, which I don't see happening.

No it isn't. I get TP at like 1/2 to 3/4 the rate of the pt's THF. ><
And I don't even miss all that much. ;;

My Samurai kitty was a spear weilding WAR/MNK to 30. She held hate well and got TP faster than many. I guess things change for tanks in 20 levels. Sorry.

Maybe I should point out that I'm a PLD? Trust me, the extra TP from being smacked around isn't all that helpful, it's 2% per hit. so roughly 2% per hit for about a hundred damage give or take 30, yeah, not really all that great. ><

Don't think anyone's mentioned Blue Mage/BST yet. Need to learn abilities by having mobs use them on you, like almost every other FF blue mage? Remember the Enemy-Skill materia on FF7? wasn't the only way to learn White Wind to control an adamantoise, or whatever gave it, and have it use the skill on you?

Alternatively, they could throw Blue Mage a curve-ball and have it learn monster abilities like Quistis did in FF8, through using items; the Blue Mage version of scrolls, y'see?

I'm not an expert on beastmasters, but I'm pretty sure that not only do beastmasters have no control over the abilities their pet uses, but there are no pet abilities that affect the beastmaster or the beastmaster's party members. All we have to go on is the video, and when you think about it, a lizard's fire breath and a spider's web are attacks that affect those monster's enemies.

In that light, I think it will be hard for a blue mage to learn monster abilities. If the blue mage has to be the primary target of the monster's attack in order to learn it, the blue mage will have to have hate at the time. But in an xp party, that will probably be hard to get (without dying, anyway).

So a blue mage will probably have to solo easy prey monsters to learn their abilities. Just my guess.

Actually, there is 1 pet that can do moves that will affect you and your pt members, dhamels can heal you and your pt with whispering wind if they're nearby when they use it, they also have another move...can't remember the name but it gives agi if your close.

That's the only pet I can think of though.

Fair enough - I've not got BST yet, so I have no real idea of how it works. I just thought I'd throw the idea in, as it struck me as strange that no one had mentioned it.

BLU/NIN would be a sickeningly awesome combination for post 24.

As we all know, BLU is the melee Mage. They are the combat mage, pure and simple. Plus, as a funny side note, they specialize in RAPIERS! Special Rapiers for ONLY BLU have existed since the job became usable WAY BACK WHEN in the series.

Let's see.... Melee + Magic + Ninjitsu + Dual Wield = One bad *** son of a chocobo. Plus, if you think about it, for some reason, those talents are rather well balanced. Monster skills like whispering wind and a few others would make BLU/NIN the single most kick-tail mage to have in a party.... *drools* I can't wait to try out that combo...
Mnk 75, Drg 75, Sam 75, Blu 74, War 50, Thf 41, Dnc 58, Nin 37, Whm 42, Rdm 46, Pup 41, Rng 63, Bst 19, Pld 4, Drk 26, Smn 3, Sch 7

Also, just thought of something else they could do. They might have it like that and also they could be another ninja-like job in that they use up ammo to use spells instead of MP. Like with that fire breath you get a scroll to do it and then you use up something like a match every time. I'd honestly prefer the MP better but hey, they could do it.
