I'm not complaining about current graphics... but that looks HAWT!!

I've been keeping up with the PS3 for awhile now (not that there has been a whole lot to keep up with until about a month ago or so) and all I can say is, "I WANT MY PS3! Giveme giveme giveme ... GIVE KITTY TOYS!"
To have decent graphics with my FFXI? About time ...
Now if they will only come out with a new Tenchu game for the PS3 and make a Mac version for FFXI, and some fish for dinner, I'll be one happy kitty.
Oh, and here is the X-Box/FFXI news from the Chocobo's beak: http://www.square-enix.com/na/company/p ... /05162005/

Being an Xbox Gamer myself, Ill say this, The Majority of Xbox gamers are not into MMORPGs and XI on Xbox 360 will not be a sucess and cause severe finacial losses for SE. Im sorry but I have a lot of hardcare xbox gamer buddies who are going to disown microsoft for putting another MMORPG on there.

Think about it for a sec ...
KarouKaniyashia wrote:The Majority of Xbox gamers are not into MMORPGs
Right, so if X-Box wants more people playing their systems (thus going from 2nd to 1st) they'll have to add a few games that attract
other types of players. Those who already have and love the X-Box are going to be already sold on the idea of the 360. But PS players? Game Cube players? PC players? Microsoft wants to grow and by adding different types of games (like FFXI) they'll be able to draw in a larger crowd (translation: mo’ money). Again, think about it, it's easier for Microsoft to buy their way in a very successful MMORPG then to make their own. This is called … good business.
Whether or not FFXI will do well on the X-Box remains to be seen. But the message is very clear; X-Box 360 wants more people playing their system then just the Halo crowd. Gates wants all 10 little fingers and 10 little piggies in every type of game, format, system, platform, etc, etc, etc ...

I'm sorry, but again, think about it. If Microsoft continues to make the kind of games your buddies love (the games that made them
hardcore gamers) do you really think they are going to disown Microsoft if they add another type of game to their list? They are hardcore after all.

I believe this link pretty accurately discribes "Most" hardcore xbox gamers.

It's on the front page of
www.playonline.com ^^;
I've heard that there are no new graphics so what we've seen is the result of the sweetness of the 360's hardware

Actually, that was a preview video. If you get your pc graphics up to 2048x2048, it'll look that good

Nah there were other factors in that video. Notice the Jeuno screen shot. There are transparency effects in the glass there and reflections from a light source. Also the polygon count is much much higher and there are new textures being used in the screen shots.
Which brings me to another point... Square has always said they didn't plan to update the computer's version of FFXI due to the graphic limitations of the PS2. If those graphics will indeed be like that on the xbox 360 would that mean they are phasing out support for the PS2? If so I'd assume they would update the PC graphics to match the xbox.
Already the new PS2s don't support HDDs so no new players can play FFXI on the PS2 unless they get a used one.

That preview was little more than SE saying "look what we can do" again.
FFXI on Xbox 360 will look exactly like FFXI on PS2 and PC but with slightly higher resolution but no new models or textures.
Don't wanna make the PS2 players feel weak, I suppose...

hopefully the PS3 will allow us to use our PS2 HDD to speed up the process of switching over.

Installing FFXI and downloading the updates isn't THAT bad, is it?

Nah, 30 ~ 45 minutes tops with a good connection.
Unless you are stuck on 56k, And while I feel sorry for any 56ker that has no other choice, honestly at this point in order for the PC industry to start making the leaps foward in gaming that the Console's have they are going to have to dump large scale support for 56k.
If you take the time to look deep into the specs of the new Console's you will quickly realize that, they spell out the death of PC gaming as we know it unless the PC hardware industry makes some Serious Serious changes. I am a PC gamer..always have been, however the fact that I can build a $2000 system ( that would be on par with someone paying $5000 or so on a Prefab alienware ) And it still could not even feasably handle the kinds of games that a $300 ~ $500 console can handle Is serious trouble for the PC gaming industry. Microsoft and Sony just raised the bar, very very high. At this point to be brutally honest I am not certain the PC industry is set to step up to that bar.

*Raises hand* Hi! that would be me a 56ker

I just got back into FFXI 2 weeks ago. It took 3 hrs to download and install the Playonline info. It took 5 hours to download and install the FFXI.

I only use 56k cause its free, if I had to pay I'd get a highspeed connection.

Maybe. I haven't seen a capacity spec on the removable HDD for the PS3. My Playonline folder is 6.6GB, so unless it's at least that large the game won't fit. The game is getting larger all the time. HDD tech has improved quite a bit however, so I guess we'll see. Pic showed a boast of 5200 PS2 titles are backward compatable but who knows if FFXI is one of them.

I'm a proud owner of a PS2. I hate sports games. There are sports games for the PS2. Do I care? No. Guess I'm not hardcore enough?

Jeuno? I clicked all the links in this thread and didn't see any with FFXI stuff in them. Could someone give me a direct link please?
I very seriously doubt they'll phase out the PS2. PC gaming has been behind console gaming in Japan since there were consoles and PCs. Most players did at one time (not sure of the current count) play on the PS2, not the computer. If SE dumped the PS2 players they'd be effectively slitting their own throat.

Jeuno...
And Sony sort of cut their throat for them when they discontinued support for the HDD for the PS2. If those are indeed the new graphics for the xbox 360, the PS2 will not be able to handle them.

Hdd is going to be approx 40gb. however since its a laptop hdd, its perfectly reasonable it will be upgradeable with a little creativeness.
As to them dumping support for the ps2, they will not be doing that. Its just the ps2 users will not get to take advantage of any new advancements should they happen.

Then why did square refuse to upgrade the PC version eariler due to the limitations of the PS2?

I find that there may be a possibility of voice communication while playing. Would that rule? I mean, no more typing.... just say... I'm starting the skillchain. And bam! Everyone hears you load and clear. Much easier cooperation if ya ask me. Any word on this?
