Excerpts

Thought I'd give this a shot and contribute some character profiles of my own. For now, I'll be posting two- neither character is the one I play in the game itself; they are both from a fanfic I'd been working on. Unfortunately, my boys aren't allowed to exist under the current character creation options... ;_;
Full Name: Zephyrean Y Certeneau
Race: Half-Elvaan, half-Hume
Gender: Male
Primary Job: Red Mage
Nationality: Federation of Windurst
Age: 20
Birth Date: The day the Crystal War ended
Height: 6’2
Weight: 150 lbs.
Hair: Short, white, and neatly kept
Eye color: Green
Typical attire: Doublets, robes, aketons and the like, along with slacks, trousers, etc. Rarely will he don heavier gear such as harnesses and scale armor. Zeph avoids subligaria like the plague.
Weapon(s): Sword, wand, staff and dagger
Craft(s): Goldsmithing, Smithing
Interests: Exploration, studying magic, honing his swordsmanship, music
Zephyrean Y Certeneau was the result of a union between a Hume woman and an Elvaan man. His father, a Tavnazian native, met his mother after Tavnazia was razed and some of its people fled overseas, landing near Selbina. He inherited the ears, hair color and skin tone of his father, while his facial features resemble more those of his mother- fair with green eyes. He is tall for a Hume but short for an Elvaan, while his build is a compromise of both races’ physiques.
Both parents died some fifteen years ago, shortly after the Crystal War. They were simple, ordinary people; neither fought in the War or were great adventurers. They were never married. His mother was a weaver, and fell to illness. His father had become a fisherman since settling in Selbina, and after the death of Zephyrean’s mother worked even harder to support their son. He was lost at sea one day. As he was very young when they passed, Zeph does not now remember many details about his parents or life together with them.
Zephyrean was then taken in by the cathedral in San d’Oria, where an acquaintance of his father’s was a member of the clergy. There, he was raised as an Elvaan, though his mixed blood could not be ignored. Despite his father having been a man of Tavnazia, encouraging a natural kinship with his San d’Orian brethren, prejudice towards Zeph’s mixed ethnicity quashed any possible development of patriotism.
Throughout his youth, Zephyrean was encouraged to join either the clergy or one of the orders of knights; his benefactor was a Royal Knight, while the one most intimately involved in his rearing was a priest. The two father-figures were prone to arguments: politics, theosophy, San d’Oria’s place in the world, and in particular Zeph’s future and best interests. He respected them both, but over the years he grew weary of their bickering as well as disillusioned with the San d’Orian belief system. The arrogance of its people and the discrimination he had endured made Zephyrean think of the Kingdom with bitterness. At age 13, Zeph met a Galkan mercenary named Great Blade who was passing through the city. It was a fateful encounter that would change his life forever…
Zeph can be absentminded, sometimes forgetting what he was doing just a minute ago after only a minor distraction, but makes up for it with a long-term memory that is better than most. On occasion, he is also subject to a poor sense of direction, in the worst cases ending up five grids away from his intended objective on the map. He possesses a habitually serious and polite disposition, which combined with a dry sense of humor and satirical wit makes him an all-around agreeable person. He shows his Elvaan side in adhering to a sense of honor and chivalry, but Zeph is much more pragmatic than your Elvaan Paladin stereotype (and he uses less flowery speech). High ideals, but a realistic outlook. He tries to bring an objective, logical viewpoint to the table in any given situation. Zeph is wary to subscribe to any extreme, instead desiring a balance in all things. It is this philosophy that brought him to the path of Red Mage.
Full Name: Foron Brizhaniej
Race: Mithra
Gender: Male
Primary Job: Ninja
Nationality: Federation of Windurst
Age: 19
Birth date: N/A
Height: 5’ 6”
Weight: 137 lbs.
Hair: Short, unruly red hair
Eye color: Blue-gray
Typical attire: In public, wears clothing to disguise his gender- usually a hooded cloak or a mask with loose eastern garb.
Weapon(s): Katana, sword, great katana
Craft(s): Bonecraft, Woodworking
Interests: Exploration, reading, meditation, hunting, fishing
Personal Treasure: Twinstone Earring
Foron is actually the nephew of the current chieftainess of Kazham, Jakoh Wahcondalo. His mother, Hysaope Brizhaniej, was among those Mithra who left Kazham with Perih Vashai to aide in the fight against the Shadow Lord. She survived the war and gave birth shortly after its conclusion.
Foron’s upbringing wasn’t as sheltered as some might expect from a boy in Mithran society. His mother taught him to hunt, how to track his prey and shoot a bow. He was inculcated on the ‘Mithran Spirit’ as with most all cubs. Still, he was not afforded some of the same liberties that girls of his age held; he saw little outside the walls of Windurst, and was restricted even in walking around town. Foron often borrowed books from the Library of Magic, eager to learn about the lands and people beyond the Federation’s territory. Stories of stealthy, cunning warriors of the Far East would later influence his job choice. He’d never even been beyond Kolshushu, until…
On his fifteenth birthday he journeyed to his mother’s homeland, Kazham, to learn more of his heritage. As a Mithran man and a relative of the chieftainess he got no special treatment; his welcome was no warmer than that of any other child of one who left the village. Indeed, Chieftainess Wahcondalo was rather… unsympathetic towards her nephew during their first meeting. Yet after he had stayed a while, Foron was quite surprised when Jakoh suggested he remain in Kazham indefinitely. An unusual change of tune, considering not only the village’s policy of not welcoming ‘outsiders’ into their fold, but Jakoh’s own tough nature. After a bit of an argument, the young Manthra went out into the Yuhtunga Jungle and arrived upon the Hidden Valley, where the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto lay. In Norg, Foron met a Galkan samurai called Great Blade and his apprentice, a half-Hume, half-Elvaan boy about his age…
Foron and Zephyrean make a unique duo, to put it mildly. When both were under Great Blade’s tutelage during their teens, a bond grew between them like that of brothers; their personalities play off of each other. It is a relationship that began with empathy for the stigmas they each held- Foron, a young man in a predominantly female society, held back all his life, and Zephyrean- one looked down on for his ‘impure’ bloodline.
Foron can be a bit naïve, but he is a spirited, good-natured person prone to random acts of kindness.
Sorry that they cut off at Norg; their background descriptions end on a point that the story itself elaborates on later. Perhaps I’ll post more some other time.
I tried to make the names as faithful to their respective races as I could. I think Zephyrean fits fairly well as an Elvaan name. His full name follows examples such as Alphollon C Meriard, Curilla C Mer… whatever her last name was, and Acheufagais R D’Oraguille. Foron’s was more difficult to come up with. I hope it sounds at least somewhat Mithran. Great Blade seemed a bit… bland at first, but with there already being Galkan NPCs called Dry Bone and Lame Deer, it’s not so bad in comparison.
