Webber's CATS

So has anyone here read TS Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats? My parents used to read the poems in there as bedtime stories when I was very young. My mom had me read it again before we went to go see CATS when it was out in Arizona years ago.

I'm watching the two DVD set right now that I bought a few years ago when it came out. My mom got to dance with the Rum Tum Tugger. God, that was hilarious.

I'd have to say that my favorite Jellicle cat out of all of them is probably either Grizabella or Mr. Mistofelees.

If you haven't seen the show, if it's ever travelling out by you, grab a ticket. It's a great show.

I remember having to bring a pack of tissues with me since the song Memory ALWAYS makes me cry. My mom used to play it on the piano and even before I knew the words, I always thought it was a sad song. It never really helped that my mom always wound up playing it right after one of our cats had to be put to sleep. To this day, if I hear the first bar of that song, I just cry.

Anyone ever read the poems or seen the show and if so, which is your favorite cat?

I first read the poems ever so long ago, and I always have a coppy no mater how many I lend to friends. As poems my faves are the Jellicle and Magical Mr Mestophiles. As production numbers, Magical Mr Mestophiles and Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser. As songs? I don't know really, I suppose I should listen to the soundtrack.

I am a great Elliot fan I even read his free verse stuff. BTW, the story behind that book....

Thise poems were written for his friends, about their cats. It was the only time he ever wrote in ryme and meter. One year, as a birthday present, his friends gathered them all together and ran off a small printing, enough for everyone at the birthday party, under the title "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." He was charmed and delighted. So were his agent and his publisher.

Yeah, I know the story behind the book. I love it. It makes me just adore that book even more. My parents gave me a copy of it for a holiday when I was young, and I could have sworn that I lost it -- so I bought another copy of it, then found the first copy I'd gotten. Figures.

Of the poems, I like the poem about Gus the most.

Music -- I love the song Macavity. Even though he's bad. I love the dance number. That and the Rum Tum Tugger number (I still can't believe my mom got pulled out of the audience to dance with him. It was hilarious).

I'm watching the DVD while I pack. I love Gus. Poor senile old kitty.
