I spent 3 years stationed on mainland Japan. The entire idea of hom-sexuality in itself is completly underground. You dont see it anywhere. There are no Pride Marches, TV/Radio shows, books, magazines... Absolutly nothing.
So trying to get something like that passed the japanese executive's of SE will take some crazy amount of politics and red tape.

Except in manga and anime, where it runs rampant...

No-no-no, hehe. I do not consider mithra-mithra sex beastiality. I just consider beastiality to be a broad term encompassing sexual relations between different species. Like Mithra-Galka, Elvaan-hume, taru-galka

, etc.
I do not mean to insult the world of Furry, but I am merely using the definition here. Assuredly, morals and laws must be questioned when we enter a new realm such as Vana'diel. Beastiality laws were put in place to halt the taking advantage of animals by humans.
But in FFXI, we live in a world where other species are sentiant. The letter of the law still states it is immoral and illegal, but the basis on which the law was founded no longer applies in the situation there.
And in my opinion, the same thing should apply with homosexuality. In the real world, male/female numbers are something like 49%/51%. But in Vana'Diel, the numbers are vastly more skewed. What, one manthra for every several thousand mithra? That must be one exhausted kitty.
The same thing for Galka. (Those big guys must get lonely every now and then... >.>) I can understand if some people have moral obligations in the galka-galka, or mithra-mithra cases....
I think our only avalible option is to travel to Japan and picket S-E. ^.^

My impression was that Galka didn't have sex at all. In fact, at the risk of giving too much away, the central story of FFXI, such as it is, revolves around Galka being reborn through some mystical reincarnation process.
As for other inter-racial relations, I've encountered a few cases where NPCs hint at it.
There's the hume and elvaan couple in Bastok we all know about for one thing.
I recall during the final rank 2 mission that the tarutaru at the Windurst Consulate in Bastok liked checking out the hume women.
Hrmm... come to think of it, hume women are the only ones I can think of that get involved with other races.
There's the woman that was helping out the Galka in Bastok, and the woman that looked out for "Flicky" the Goblin in Jeuno... but that's probably more compassionate love than anything sexual.
But male mithra are still a mystery to me. You would think that at least they might make a few NPCs of them. They have male and female children NPCs of humes, tarus, and elves... but mithra children are only female. They even have old men and women NPCs. I guess the other races all die young

The problem is, I think SE desinged the various races to be humanoid enough so that this wouldn't be much of an issue. However, then the whole idea of marriage came into play, and it had rules. Now, these rules, like any other would be questioned, petitions woluld be sent to SE, and what not. But the fact of the matter remains, their rules are either too restricting, or not enough, as the case is right now.

If a mithra and a hume have consensual sex, then it's not beastiality. It's sex. Trying to apply real world laws to a fantasy world gets confusing. I mean, then you have to deal with half-breeds, which simply don't fit into the coding of the game.
You understand that the law is there to "halt the taking advantage of animals", which was where it's different than sex. A sentient being can make the choice for themselves, and I think that if the real world had to deal with multiple races of population, we would not label it beastiality to have inter-racial sex/marriage. Most of the science fiction plays with this theory freely. ^^

Like I said earrriler, the Mithra chiefteness has a relationship with a male hume.

I don't even think race/species comes into it... people just view player avatars as male or female. I think even Galka would be considered male by appearance. And that's pretty much where the "moral" issue is... in appearances. Homosexuality shouldn't even be an issue in this game, simply because it is a game, and there is no sex involved. Whatever anyone derives from a coupling is their own insinuation... it doesn't
happen in-game. Plus, both people may not even know each other, and could both be male or female... is that considered cyber-homosexuality? It's all in fun, which is what the game should be. If you're limiting the fun too much, you throw in real frustrations, taking players out of the game and making them have discussions like this one.

Who's frustrated, this is fun.
But in all honesty, I do have to yeild to the argument "This is just a game, Fantasy." Hehe. Excuse me, the science major, for wanting to bring real world laws to bear inside a game.
Anyways, as for myself, I agree completely with Firemyst. I just love playing the Devil's Advocate.

While on the topic of mixed relationships with npcs there is a Hume male and Elvaan female couple in Sandy, I remember encountering them when doing a quest.

The main Japanese culture is far more homophobic than our own general culture. Probably up there with the bible belt or the deep south.
But here we are bad enough. Almost everyone I know under 30 uses the word "Gay" as a pejoritave. Including gays.

Only the Hume and Elvaan show overt signs of age.
In Muhara there is a Mithra who complains about her age and old war wounds. She looks younger than I do.

It also strikes me that almost everywhere you go in Vanad'iel you will Mithra - Taru boy pairs who are at a minimum, close long term friends and compaions.

Ephi, you don't owe anyone anything ever. Just by the tone of your post I'd advise you to NOT get married. You get married in the game because:
"OMG, I just love when he is online and we play together. It doesn't matter what we are doing, farming or fighting, I just want to be with him. Sometimes we just find a quiet corner and talk for hours without playing the game at all......."
You DON'T get married in the game because:
1) Someone gives you gil. I've given people gil before. I do not expect them to marry me for it.
2) He's a really nice guy unless you piss him off. Erm, enough said here I think. THINK about that.
3) You feel like you owe him something because he's a nice guy and he's been generous and um, gee, what can you give him in return.....
If you were my daughter I'd be having a serious talk with you right now, and this "guy" would be staked to my front door as a warning to any other guy out there who may consider pressuring you into marriage by giving you stuff that you cannot afford on your own, or by intimidating you into something that you don't want to do.
Nuff said?

true... but im sorry im horrible with words

...i basically meant to say hes really nice to EVERY1 but hes not a carpet... hes willing to give an give but hes not gonna do it if its expected of him... he got mad cuz som1 was using him as a carpet i believe...i like that in a person strong but not cocky... willing to give but not letting any1 take advantage of him... sure i said "i feel like i owe him" but i no i dont owe him...hes a great guy... i just wonder should i get married... +he shows his strength in the fact that he doesnt believe in PLers... hes willing to PL... but altho i use PL, i dont care to use it... im a very weak individual... strength infatuates me... i no very little of having strength... however ima decent leader in pts
sorta just me now but if i had the personality types comparable to FF characters, my personality is a Squall/Cloud combo (them at beginning or in their past)... i dont like relying on others but im too weak an desire strength...was that relevant?
anyhoo im still seeking advice... sorry for my poor description an putting the negative stuff
