Okay. I believe some of ya have met my bro Shadowcat? (he's mostly goin' by Shadowneko now) Well, since the PS2 ver is coming, he decided to take his little beta hume theivey butt and write a Newbie FAQ for FFXI. Here it is:

HEY! No picking on White Mages! =p Not all of them are concieted, I certainly am not =p *ahem* anyway, he might want to get help from different people that have played each race/jobs. get tips from them since they know what its like to play them first hand.
I do not charge people for healings or raises. Some people just like to tip you if you raise them. I never take it though. I can see why some whms charge to teleport others around especially since they need so much gil to get the high level spells. My whm friend had to gil farm to get 400k gil to buy Raise II. One of the reasons i choose thf as a sub was the gil finding ability

I wouldn't mind if you posted this on Gamefaqs, I'm plannin' on fixing Shadowcat a text version of this FAQ for Gamefaqs. Shadowcat asked me to do that since I'm good at prettying things up. (including text files!)
Also, that's why I'm postin' it around. Shadowcat agrees with me; we need some input from people who are playing right now, not the "waiters" so we can get this up to date and ready before he starts submitting it all over. The only way is to post up what he's got and ask for ideas/critisim. And since I'm on the SS board and am kinda in MP (though I'm a PS2 waiter)...guess who gets that job? *twitches her ears*

Please note these are just my opinions and if disagreed with, I don't really mind.
Is this for newbies to MMORPGs or to FFXI w/ MM game experiance? If it's for total newbies it needs to go into the details of the benifits of groups, good communication, how hate works, etc. If it's for those experianced with MM games, that probably won't be nessisary.
The paragraph between 'Making a character' and 'Races' should be under the 'Starting Jobs' section.
In the 'Starting Areas' section I'd recommend warning about how spread out Windurst is. It's 5 zones compared to the 3 the other citys entail (Waters is the size of two zones). Also, it is not mentioned that San d'Oria has a blacksmiths guild, which it does.
I very much disagree that crafts is a good way to make money. A good way to spend excess gil IMO. Information on how to use the AH effectively should be used instead.
In the manners section there should be mention that death involves exp loss and deleveling. Personal loss will be a bigger motivator to not die than the conquest. I assume he means it for total newbies (what are the PS2 players gonna say when they start this? Bet it's gonna be a "Huh?") as well as the ones that come from other MMORPGs.
Someone on SS said that adding some basic MMO definations would be a good idea as well...and one race needs fixing as well: Elvaan. (This is a rough draft, did you guess?) Also, Shadow said he might add advanced job quests as well; prolly will add a def and the basics only of skillchains and magic burst (but not put a chart! Others have done a good job of that) Also may be adding standard weapon types as well.
I'll add what ya said to the notes that I'm sending Shadowcat so he can fix stuff...Can be hard to correct things in a hurry when you're not the real author, ya know?
I also told Shadow that he needs to explain "Signet" better, and say something about lotting. I heard that there's some idiots that think you shouldn't lot. That is disgusting...

But I thought ya might wanna know. Shadowcat just got through editing and changing it. basically makin' a new version. (I had to html a paste from a word file, that's what. That takes forever...and no I won't save it as a HTML file directly. Word makes a VERY messy HTML file and I don't wanna clean that trash up!)

Oh dearie me..is it? Yes it is. Another naughty double post. But this time, it's on purpose.
My bro just finished version 1.5 of the Newbie Guide (and I just finished HTML'ing and editing the sucker) Added basic macros, the Kazham airship quest, corrected some things, added a Updates section and WOAH for a lotta ya: added a table of contents. WITH anchors for the HTML version ONLY. (That was prodded by someone Sivara ought to know and know well. A hint: his online nick starts with a D.)
Anyway, in case you missed where I put it after my school page died the death (so you didn't have to deal with pesky ads) it's now at http://maryadavies.250free.com/ffxinewbie.html . (There's ads there atm, I'm tryin' to get that fixed)
Comments on the content? Anything you cats I ought to get the newspaper and whap on my bro to add?
