Davoi Coffer Key

Post by Pheonixhawk »

Ok so I head to the Monastic Cavern as lvl 75 rdm. Im prettey sure nothing could pwn me there while searching for my Coffer Key mobs until I realized a few of em checked as EP. So Assuming these were the mobs I soloed them easily until I came across two EP that had High Evasion and High Defense. They were Orcish Chapion and Orcish Dragoon. I hate to say it, but I nearly died in that fight. They werent fighting like EP. More like EM. Somehow they both woke up from sleepga (seconds after I casted it) and sliced through my stoneskin. refresh had worn off, and I only had 36 mp. my health was dwindling as they kept interrupting my casting. As I started to see my life flash before my eyes, something in me snapped. OH HELL NO. Im lvl 75. Im a friggin rdm. Im not losing to these punks. So I chainspell stoneskin. Convert. Cure IV. Sleepga. Protect IV. Phalanx, and of cour refresh. I swapped out my melee gear and put on my errants gear and healed mp. Got my mp to full and nuked the be-jesus outta them until they died. Happy to just be alive and not dead I warped out. It wasnt until today though that I did research on the Coffer Key mobs, that I found out some important Info.

1: Those were not the mobs I needed to kill for the key. (The ones I pwned easily)

2: I did find the right mobs, but they are lvl 69-71.

3: The same mobs in Davoi drop the coffer key, but they are only lvl 55-59.

The moral of the Story is.... do research before doing AF outta boredom.

The monastic Cavern has mobs the level of Ruby Qudav and the Yagudo High Priest hidden away somewhere or another.

Invis is a must. Even at 75. Trust me on this.

Damn my addiction to Viva Pinata! I could have been there to see this.

Actually, I am three achievements away from 100% completion and I honestly don't feel like getting the last three so I think I'm done with Viva Pinata.

Well I know about the NM there but i know where he is at. As for Davoi. Im not afraid of the mobs there ganging up on me but inside that house is a NM orc that makes Freddy Cougar look like a little school girl dancing in a garden.

Don't mention that house. I accidentally wandered in there while doing G3

Invis won't help much if you run into the NM- he's true sight.

Beastmen tend to be harder then they con- and some of them are pretty damned smart too. I've seen some whm beastmen mobs remove enfeebles on themselves (and others) and I really hate it when a brd keeps slapping finale on every time I put SS up.

Another player once advised me to consider beastmen mobs to be about 5-10 levels harder then they con depending on job. As a rule of thumb, its been a pretty good benchmark for me.

Some of them sure, but its not unusual for whm gobbies for example or cardians to cure each other or remove status effects.

It may be Luck, but sometimes I just have to wonder...

I don't find Beastmen mobs near that much tougher than other mobs. The ones I tend to avoid are the Marlbrough and Ghost types. The DCs in those types are like T regular mobs.

Its artificial intelligence. And sometimes that is better than the real kind.

lol so true.

The advice isn't entirely accurate, I'll admit. It depends on the job of the beastman and your job as well. When I was soloing NIN in Bubu. Peninsula I'd hate to fight the BLM gobs (really detest Blaze spikes ><) but wouldn't mind fighting the warrior ones. Both conned about the same to me (EM-T generally) but I always had a harder time with the blm ones. At the same time, the animal mobs (dhamels and birds) who were the same level range were much easier to deal with.

If I'm on RDM and I'm soloing, I prefer mages if I can silence them and just about any job other than PLD or RDM. I'll fight PLDs, but even the beastmen ones have high defense which makes for longer fights and well RDMs just plain suck to fight

In the end, I'm just talking out of my ass. So take it all with a grain of salt.

For some fun in the caverns, try doing the NMs. They're all easily soloable by a RDM. At least they're very easy for a nin or thf and rdm can outsolo either of those two blindfolded. Generally just have to be prepared.

The trick is to use the train-depop feature to pull the NM and split it away from all the adds. Shoot it, run to the zone. Stand at zone until NM is on you, then zone out and zone back in. The train will be gone, but the NM will still be there. It's not a trick you can use when other people are camping the zoneline (cuz the NM will kill them or they'll get claim on it), but the caverns are usually pretty empty these days.

So, pull the NM back to the zoneline before train respawns and kill it. Then /dance on it's corpse and celebrate all the lovely gil you got (or more likely didn't get  ). Still, it's fun.
