Wii will cost $250, be available in U.S. Nov. 19th!!!

Post by Keavy »

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153622
Nintendo's Wii will ship November 19 and retail for $250 if a report by The New York Times (by way of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer -- who appears to have leaked the story early, as it hasn't shown up on the New York Times webpage, yet) turns out to be legit. Right now, the masses are huddled around a press conference in Japan slated to get underway later this evening that is expected to detail the console's full launch plan.
Additionally, the report details that Nintendo expects to ship four million units worldwide by the end of the year (it does not specify whether that is the calendar or fiscal year). For $250, consumers won't just be getting the Wii-system, however. From the report:

Nintendo intends to announce today that every Wii will come with a game compilation called Wii Sports -- including tennis, golf, baseball and bowling -- meant to show off the machine's intuitive controls.
According to the report, Wii titles will retail for $50, with downloadable games for the system's "virtual console" retailing between $5 and $10. About thirty virtual console games will be available at the system launch, including games from the Zelda and Mario franchises. New Wii-related details surfaced in the report as well, concerning the system's functionality as an all-in-one living room device.

"There will be a photo channel that will allow users to use the Wii to display digital photographs on television.
There also will be an easy-to-use interactive news channel and weather channel.

Perhaps most intriguing, the Wii will make it possible to browse the Web on the television. Microsoft's Xbox 360 does not permit this because that could negate the need to buy a Windows PC.

We're still waiting for the Japanese press conference to get underway, and the U.S. conference begins tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. EST, we'll be updating live from both.
WOO HOO!!!

machine's intuitive controls
n. intuitive interface: used to describe a method of operating a device that the manufacture does not care to document and for which they will deride the user misfortunate enough to ask questions about how to use said device.

Here's the thing: The DS is outselling every other console in Japan and with the limited numbers of PS3's in the U.S. and no PS3 in Europe and Australia until March (At least) the Wii stands to gain some ground.

I know a lot of you can't wait for PS3 and don't care about Nintendo but hey, for those that do I posted this.

Me, I can't wait to play games on the Wii. It looks like a ton of fun to play, much like games on my DS. I am excited for it and I hope that it is a success.

All this nonsense against which console thier waiting for. I just want to play games darn it!!!

In all honesty Every System is equally fun. No better than the other. Because where one system messes up, the other one picks up.

I have a nintend, super nintendo, sega genisis, dreamcast, playstation, playstation 2, nintendo 64, Xbox 360, gamecube, and a Atari. And let me tell you, every system rocks in its own special way. Heck there are some days I love my PS2 and hate my gamecube, and some days its vice versa. There are some days I loathe my 360, and some days im playing it non stop. It all depends...

Will you be able to use your DS as a controller like you could with the GBA on the GameCube? That was a cool feature I liked for all of 3 games (to my knowledge) One being FF Crystal Chronicals, I know they've made II or working on it for Wii so~ will it be like the first and plug in GBA/DS for controllers or just use the ugly new controllers? :?

the way I see it... Sony is getting onld...same old gameplay rom the same old controler, just better graphics, ooo big woop, atleast MS changed their controler a little, and ever system Nintendo comes out with they make the controler completly diffrant, and it keeps my interest. Wii will have many fun games to play, and PS3 will be the same old BS that just looks better ;p

It's the games that make the difference. And on all the PS's so far there is ahuge amount of more interesting games than on any other console.

Of course....PC for teh win as always.

In my local newspaper today:

Nintendo's new console to be released in Japan December 2nd.

Might be a tad later then noted ther however expected by only a few days after the JP release.

As for me,
I've been waiting for this baby.
Zelda, Metroid, Mario... Drools~
In the mean time, I'll keep playing my DS :3

That is my one issue with Nintendo: They make accessories then support them for a week. With the motion control being an integral part of the Wii's controls I hope that they'll stick with it.

Also, Virtual Console!!! I'll be buying the games I love and save my emulators for the turkeys (Hey, I am a bad enough dude to save the President from Ninjas!) so $5-10 is a fair price.

Why change what works? PS1 and PS2 were very successful and immensely popular, sticking to the same gameplan should secure the success of the PS3... but wait! What's this new crap they're adding (BlueRay or something? Forget what it's called) that makes the console cost so much more? Hmm... bad move Sony?

They're releasing a series of sports games as someone mentioned. That'll make best use of their controllers by emulating the sports equipment... however, I've said this before and I'll say it again, I see this weird new controller thing being more of a hinderance for a lot of other games. Good thing they've made a classic controller huh... for this thing to properly work in a game the games will specifically have to be designed to support them, not making a game then using the controller thing for normal controls.
Really most of the games that are on the GameCube I cannot see how they can use the new giro thingie... platforms, car games, beat-em-ups... FPS could be very good or just damn annoying.

I'll leave you with a PA strip :P
