I only looked up guides for quests and equipment for jobs, rest is kinda... well... easy hehe :)

BTW I beat a RDM at Ballista without a single loss of HP ;)
RDM/NIN vs RDM/WHM, not much of a challenge really :P

Real gamers do figure things out for themselves. Superior gamers do research.

There are far better guides than the ones on GameFAQs. But without reading the others, you would never find that out. They used to have the best trolls on their forums, but the quality has gone down latley.

When I'm stumped I go to ffxi.allakhazam.com

I do my best to not use guides. Only if I'm so frustrated I'm ready to rip my hair out and i've been at it for at least an hour will I use a guide.

HOWEVER...Be warned. In FFXI some people will not help you unless you have a guide and have followed it.

Offline game players that get those books they sell at the game stores WHEN they buy the game make me sick. I have a friend that is like that and he knows that as far as I am concerned he is not a gamer.

I bought the KH2 Limited Guide when I bought the game, but that was mostly just because there was no other way to get it other than to pre-order.

Okay, let me rephrase: In a situation like that, I see it as not that big a deal because you get cool stuff like art.

What my friend does that I hate is he follows the book step by step and says that he could NEVER beat these games without the book because that's how they make the games now.

When I was a kid I got all my info from the playground on how to beat games. For example: The original Metroid. I had a lot of problems clearing the Tourian level then a friend of mine told me about freezing the Metroids then using missiles.

I am an old-school gamer. Back when I started there WERE NO GUIDEBOOKS!!! You either figured it out yourself or you asked a friend who knew a guy who had a cousin who beat it once.

There is only one game that REQUIRES a guide that that's Earthbound for SNES. Nintendo even sold it with the book oncluded because there was no other way you'd be able to figure that game out.

Heh back in the days games were not meant to be completed  unless you were like a god in that particular game. Like Mario Land on the Gameboy, that's pretty damn hard when you first place it but it's pretty damn addictive and you get to know it and complete it in time :)
You want a hard game? Try Ninja Gaiden

I use guides when I get stuck or one of those games where you spend hours running around and going to the wrong places.

Ninja Gaiden's dev team brainstorming session:

Old school gamers started on games with physical components. Other than disks that is. You know, like Monopoly, Bridge, Chess, Go, Risk, Gin rummy, that kind of thing.

There have ALWAYS been guides. Think of "Modern Chess Openings", those Bridge collums in newspspers, or even the discusions about the old text game Adventure, found on what would some day become the internet.

I do admit that it is a bit strange to buy a game that is 90% puzzles, and then buy the book of solutions....

In Vanad'iel there are some quests that one could NEVER figure out the solution to without help. Mostly I need the guides to find out what some strange piece tagged Rare/Ex, which HAS to be a quest item, and has just landed in my inventory, is for.

Laff  not quite mistakes but it's f*cking hard nonetheless. Basically if you don't use the Block button then you're dead, then they make it harder by having things perform "throws" on you whilst you're blocking and those Black Monkey Ninjas or whatever with incendury shurikens and it just goes on and on. Hardest at the start when you have little life and don't know much. I'm discounting the downloadable expansion packs which are so fscking hard I couldn't complete

Keep in mind I am much older than a lot of you so when I refer to something like "Metroid" or "Final Fantasy" I'm usually referring to the NES and SNES versions I grew up with.

I haven't played the Xbox version yet but my sister said she thought it was too easy. Then again, she beat DOA4 first time through without breaking a sweat and can clear the original Devil May Cry on Dante Must Die! mode without taking a hit.

So yeah, she's better than me at those type of games. Resident Evil she is godly in and she loves that series to death.

Well, except for Outbreak and Survivor, but those were steaming piles of poo anyways.

Hey, I played those older systems too and I still play them. New games have nothing on our non-polygonal 2D side scrollers.

I only use the guide to find out synthing skills and to see if ive overlooked any spells ive needed. (It happens) Also when I want to know some info about a job i consider lvling, I check guides to see what they can do. I mean when I ask ppl in game its the same thing. Oh this job is okay at melee, you should sub this for it. And thats it. And im like, what about the job itself. So I log onto gamefaqs do some reading and then decide if I want to lvl it or not. The rest of the game I do on my own. Unless its a mission and I don't know what to do, and niether does anyone else in game.

 So hard your friends will die! I've never played the original NES/SNES ones although they're on the game but I can't be bothered with them (think you need to collect them then go back to the start of the game or something stupid).

Too easy  :o your sister must be a god(dess) gamer then. Did she ever take part in the Master Ninja tourny? And if she thought it was too easy "Very Hard" mode becomes available after completing Normal and Hard.

I think Karou mocked me for not being able to complete the downloadable expansion

Well the first and second part of the tourney you just complete in your own time and send in your scores.
Think the 3rd they invited people to a final somewhere. Obviously this was quite a while ago :P
