I must admit, I know little about the Maat fight yet. 40 seconds sounds very impressive, though. What'd you do? Stab the old man in the back when he wasn't looking?

Yeah, images. I thought you'd have one during the fight. ;) Stealing, eh? That sounds a bit easy for such a big fight. Anyone know what Samurai have to do?

In the Maat fights you end up having to kill (or in the case of thf steal from) the old man. It's limited in that you have a level restriction of 70 and you don't get a subjob  Maat shows up as whatever job you are to fight so in the case of SAM you'd fight a level 70 Maat SAM
62 DRG/WAR (for parties)
62 DRG/WHM (for solo)
61 WHM/SMN
check the members list for more details

Bonecraft level 7
Cooking level 70
Alchemy level 9

Artifact Armors in possession = 10
Artfact Armors that can be equipped = 10

Yep, every job but THF and WHM have to kill the old man. WHM has to cure themselves while the old man beats on them for a certain amount of HP, 4000 I think, or somewhere in the neighborhood. THF isn't as easy as it seems, I've had many THF friends go 0/10+ on him. It's also possible for THF to beat him by killing him, but it's very difficult without a subjob, but I've seen some impressive videos of a THF beating Maat they way everyone else does.

I wonder if a WHM has ever killed Maat, instead of curing the 4k HP.

yes its possible, i intend to try it someday, but it will requre some really insane gear to pull off. then again, it was easier just to cure to win when i did it /blush.

I know curing the 4k is much easier, I just want to see a WHM kill him and not time out, that would be impressive.

Does using potions count as "curing" during the WHM Maat fight? Maybe you could do that to keep your HP up, and use drinks for MP Regen. Then just wail on him with a nice heavy staff and divine spells.

Well, if you have enough gil for all those Hi-Potions and Vile-Elixers (20k each on Titan), it's worth the try.
I've never heard of a whm actually beating Maat by fighting him.
Divine magic won't really work tho.

You enter the BC as whm and so does Maat.
No subjob so no Magic atk bonus from BLM.
Next to that WHM has a very high Magic defence at that lvl, so divine magic won´t do much on him I´m afraid,

I don't know....

I know Maat uses mnk tactics, that's all. (H2H)
From a Warior friend who fought him I only got to know his actual fight lasted 10 seconds.
Maat didn't stand one chance.

From what I know about his tactics was:

Sleep to 150TP (some earrings let you do that I believe dunno exactly)
Go in BC, Spam WS take icarus wing Spam second WS {Reverberation}.
Maat kicked the bucket.

it all depends on tactics.

I'm not even close to fighting him yet, so I can only speculate.
What you can do is ask fellow Samurai kitty Misata.
She is a 70 sam atm but I don't know if she fought him yet.

No, but he'll use {Asuran Fists} on you.

THF can kill Maat fairly easy with a good set of potions and Marksmanship leveled up. It's all about the Sleep and Bloody Bolts.

1) Use an Opo-opo Necklace to sleep yourself to 100% TP (or more if you're feeling punchy).

2) SA {Dancing Edge} to start the fight.

3) Wail on him a bit to get 100% TP back. Might have to heal a bit here with potions and such. You can heal yourself pretty well if you use bloody bolts.

4) Sleep him with a sleep bolt and run around behind him. SA {Dancing Edge} again and he should go down easy.

Of course, you can just steal from him, but doing that makes him whip out {Asuran Fists} and if you don't have {Perfect Dodge} up, you're toast.

Maat will use his two hour, when I fought him on RNG he whipped out EES right after my Sidewinder. To which I responded with my own EES, Barrage, and another Sidewinder, buahahaha.

I know he two-hours for all the jobs (PLD, MNK, RDM, WAR, BLM, RNG, SAM, etc), but I don't think NIN would work that way, I'll have to ask one of my NIN friends.

In thinking about it, a Yagudo in one of the BCNMs I've done for Windy missions was a NIN type. He 2-houred, fell down and stood back up, still alive and causing us to take heavy damage but he didn't die from it, maybe that's how Maat's two hour works in the NIN fight.

nin is different. ill explain, if all ninja mobs blew themselves up, then what point to the NM would their be? they would all basiclly be bombs on sticks weilding ninjitzu, and S-E didnt want that. so they did somethine equally evil, they made Nin mobs 2 hour, different from the players 2 hour. when you use mijin gakare you die, when a mob uses it, they live, hence they arent bombs, just have a massve damage aoe skill.

Umm... I'm pretty sure a yag NM uses Mijin and dies, the one in giddeus but they only do it when they're about to die anyway. I've read about a yag NM in Castle whatsits that blows up and respawns with 1hp nearby, if he spawns to far away from you you lose claim and the drop :(

Tonberry's are not fun to mess with... you accumulate a hate from the tonberry's as you kill more and more. They do a special move called everyone's rancor that's based off of how much they hate you.

I've taken 0 damage from a rancor, but i've also taken an upwards of 3k. That my friend = a dead rng.

Isn't there a way to reverse it Tonberry hate?

I'd totally be a BST if I could charm one of them. ;)

Tonberries cannot be charmed :)

Anyway, yes there is a way to reverse tonberry hate.
It is a little quest you need to do.

Since Allakhazam isn't working at the moment,
you can find the info in the Zilart mission 4 thread.

(Which I'll be doing soon >.>)

I'm still a ways off from the Maat fight, but I gotta say, nice job on getting the record. Did you use Flee, run up to him and steal to win? Or what...?

yeah, everyone's grudge is no joke. I know someone who is on a mission to find out how high she can get the damage...she so far has it to 12k+.

there are two ways to remove tonberry hate..one is the quest mentioned above, the other is to let a tonberry do the "throat stab" move. It will nearly kill you, but will never actually kill you. Although any attack afterwards probably will finish the job. :?
