Post by Baketsu »

Where would you say is the best place to get a Carbuncle Ruby at? Carbuncle Ruby is needed for Summoner Quest. I was just wondering from personal expieriance.

From personal experince.....hmm...what my LS did when we needed a few rubies was slaughter a million leeches infront of the tower in Qufim. It went fairly quickly, but then again, we had a 75 rng and a mid 50 something War helping. It was the mid 30 something Drg (me) and the mid 40 something Whm who needed the rubies. But yeah, I think Qufim is the best place to go for it. Since people who actively pull leeches for exp are few and far between. Darwin made sure of that.
In the end, I'm just talking out of my ass. So take it all with a grain of salt.

The carbuncle ruby is a tough one,
everyones experience is different on that.

I got mine in the Leech room of Maze of Shakrami,
After Killing leeches for hours in Valkurm, Buburimu, Jugner, Passhow and Ordelles.
I got the first Ruby drop in the Maze after just a few kills.

It really differs, even when you have a 45+ thf with you the drop can take hours on end.

my LS and I took to the Maze of Shakira (mmmm... Shakira...) Leech room in search of our rubies... My cyclone and TH2 made short work of the job... 5 rubies in about 2 hours worth of hunting.

Got mine from the Labyrinth of Onzozo. It was unintentional too... we were one of the few and far between parties that leveled on leeches :P

mine came from buburimu.. mu.. spent a couple hours w/ 3 other ppl killin leeches. we got like 2 rubies, i didn't get either. we disbanded, mostly for bed and such, but i stayed around about 15mins more solo, and got a ruby drop :D i was 30 thf at the time.

as to your question: anywhere there's leeches you can kill w/out much effort is a good place to search for a ruby.

Everything I had heard led me to believe that Bubu was the best place for em. I went there three times. Spent about two hours the first, 15 minutes the second (died ; ;), and like 5 minutes the third. Third time I was there Lamy was helping me and I got it almost instantly. I'm almost possitive that the day/moon has a massive affect on this but I didn't think about writing it down at the time ^^; Reason I think this is reading what other people have posted and it's almost always either w/in 15 minutes or took over 6 hours kind of stories.

ive always gone to Bubu... for me and to help ppl...
last time i was there for a friend... i got 575 exp worth of leeches (poor leeches :( ) ... an most ofem didnt give exp...
not necessarily fun but... (well my friend was WHM so we pwned a few Bogys while we were there)

when i got mine i found a 2nd THF who was willin to help.... she was just passin by an obviously had nothing better to do... which helped alot cuz it was THF/WHM so it helped cut the heal time

Do the higher level leeches have any better chance of dropping the ruby than the lower level ones?

Does the amount of items you are carying have an effect of how often you see drops? I have no proof, but it always seems that way to me.

When i got mine, i was a level 30 mnk, and it took maybe 2 hours to get. I was with another mnk/thf. It mightve been faster with TH1 but it wasnt that bad heh. I got mines in buburimu.

As I understand it, the ones who drop beastman blood have better odds on droping the Ruby than the ones who drop fiend blood. That said, any leech CAN drop the ruby, even the baby leeches in Zerun Mines. Just some have a lousy drop rate while others have a truly abysmal drop rate.

If you are solo, and have a full inventory, you can just bet you will see "You do not meet the requirements for the Carbuncle Ruby. Carbuncle Ruby lost." in the chat log.

The first time around, I got a Ruby in Ordrll's Caves while hunting RSE. The second time, in Buburumi Penunsulia in less than 5 mins. Had a THF with TH2 allong though. A friend has slaughtered hundreds of leeches there without one drop though.

I guess the answer to your question is: wherever there are leeches you can kill easily, but the higher level the leeches are, the better. The rest is all luck.

Buburimu is where I got my own as well as a friend's. There's three beaches full of leeches (technically two since two of them are connected by a short tunnel).

Couldn't you do it in Valkurm? Nobody ever seems to EXP off the leeches there, so it's easy farming.

when i went for my ruby, I did it in Buburimu. We had me (30 thf) a red mage level about 30, and some other thf that think was about 30 as well. Anyways, we were all trying to get the ruby, all 3 of us got one in a half hour. I know we had 2 thfs there with treasure hunter, but that doesnt have THAT much effect, and you cant tell me 3 in a half hour is all luck :P

My first experience with ruby hunting is when my brother and I went to {Valkurm Dunes} for the sole purpose of killing leeches. We knew nothing whatsoever about how to increase drop rate, best places to hunt, etc... all we knew is, "kill leeches".. so basically we just fought a few leeches, i think they checked as {Decent Challenge} but i might remember wrong ^^; we didn't get a thing, prolly cause valkurm isn't the best place for leech hunting...

A while later, one of my friends and I went hunting in Buburimu for the Carbuncle's Ruby. She was WHM/SMN and I was RDM/THF. Believe it or not...I got it on the very first leech :D She said the reason we got it so fast is because she had SMN subbed, but I said the reason was because I had THF sub with {Treasure Hunter}. Maybe the reason was both, there was prolly some luck involved, but since then i have always thought of Buburimu as THE leech lunting place ^^

A while later, me and some friends were helping my brother with the same task. We didn't get it nearly as quickly as I had... but still, it was pretty quick, much better than valkrum had been ^^
