FFXIV RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!

Post by Fiye »

Only way I can describe my feelings after reading this.

Kotaku: FFXIV Races, Jobs revealed

I was prepared for the samey sameish of the races. Who wasn't? They pretty much fucking declared that.

But then I read this.
Job-wise, FFXIV has four jobs revealed so far with two sub-classes for each: Fighter (swordsman, archer), Sorcerer (enchanter, warlock), Crafter (blacksmith, cook) and Gatherer (gardener, fishermen).
Reading this again.

Jobs with two subclasses.

Either I'm looking at a different method for obtaining advanced jobs. Or a new job system.

I'm hoping its the former.

Edit: At least the FFXIV Tarutaru look cute.

Can't say I am particularly fond of the "Archtype" systems that seem so popular as of late. I want to pick my class and be done with it..

Guess I will just have to see as more info comes out.

My whole thing is, I'd be fine with archetypes.

As long as I could still mix things up. Fighter/Archer.

Blacksmith/Gardener

Enchanter/Swordsman.

Just have to work through a bit of Sorcerer and Fighter to get to the advanced jobs.

That'd be perfectly fine.

I just don't fucking want another MMO based on Maple Story's job progression.

No. Because then it starts involving waaaaay to much Min/Maxing.

Maple Story?

Well it looks like there isn't any mix and matching, which is good. No annoying leveling stupid subjobs you hate, no subjob nazi-ism although that may still be the case... kinda wonder how a Craftsman gets around in the world? Maybe that's their way of doing crafting, turning it into an actual job.

Miqo-te, quite an exotic name for Mithra :) Don't you think the Taru look taller? :o

Its really a whole new system. Honest.

It does draw on other FF games, most notably XI.

And they are releasing tiny tidbits regularly to keep interest up.

Or, don't waste that rage, save it, it will have MUCH more use later.

I have pointed out that XIV is EXACTLY what they promised us their next MMO would not be. They said in print it would not be a FF title, and would definitely not be FFXI -2.

Their little move to make this FFXIV just cements the idea that Final Fantasy is now a marketing term for Squeenix.

As far as the similarities go. 'eh, I've seen worse done in MMOs.

Most notably, AC2.

Ya I agree, it's nothing but marketing sadly.

You have it all wrong.
You do not have four classes with subclasses. You have four Disciplines. You could think of these in FFXI terms as Skills. You have 'Combat Skills', 'Magic Skills', 'Craft Skills', and HELM (which has some sort of skillup system to it, but is unlisted).

There are Disciples of War, of which we know four so far- Gladiator, Marauder, Archer, and Pugilist; Disciples of Magic, of which we know three- Thaumaturge, Illusionist, Shaman; Disciples of the Hand, of which we know three- Blacksmith, Chef, Weaver; and Disciples of the Land, of which we know two- Fisherman and Horticulturist.

Two combat Disciplines, two non-combat Disciplines.

Each Class is associated with a weapon or item.
For example...
Gladiator : Sword
Marauder : Bhuj
Archer : Bow
Pugilist : Baghnakhs

So, what you were lead to believe here is quite mistaken, I'm afraid.

Please consider http://wiki.eorzeapedia.com/Disciplines if you wish to know more about the class system.

Yeah, that information wasn't available at the time of the posting.

Right now, its a matter of finding out how the leveling system will work now.
