Chocobo Raising(06/01/2006)

Post by Alya Mizar (Tsybil) »

Here it is AT LAST!!!!

http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/topics/060601.html

The FINAL FANTASY XI development team has finally addressed everyone’s cries for a system to raise their own personal chocobos. As announced at the FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2006 in Santa Monica, this new feature will be introduced in the next version update!

Raising Your Chocobo
[Basic Concept]
Think of chocobo raising as an upgraded version of gardening. You can raise a chocobo by taking care of it for a minimal amount of time each day over a span of roughly 1-3 months, so even players with little time can enjoy this feature. Your chocobo may come in handy when it is fully grown!

[Chocobo Eggs]
Your first step is to get hold of a chocobo egg. Each egg is encoded with its own specific genetic information, and some players may come across an extremely rare variety…

[Caring For Your Chocobo]
You must work together with the chocobo stable employees in order to properly care for your chocobo. Feeding your chocobo and spending a bit of time with it each day will gradually build trust. You will be amazed at how your chocobo grows!

Chocobo Variety
Chocobos differ based on their color and type…and possibly more. Naming will be handled in the same way that dragoons and puppetmasters select their wyvern or automaton’s name, but there will be more options than ever before!

Matchmaking
Match up your chocobo with your friend’s chocobo and see what happens. If the match is right, you could end up with a new baby chocobo!

Scores of other exciting features are scheduled to be added in the next version update, so keep checking the main site for more information in the next few days!

That's pretty sweet. I hope they add some of those projected job adjustments too.

Chocobo raising sounds like it might cost a bit though. I suppose it's good that I've started harvesting again for gil. I've already made about 300k or so in a matter of about.. 3 hours total. I could probably make more if I freed up my inventory and muled stuff more.

Thats nice. Don't think ill bother with raising chocobos. I just hope the eggs cant be sold or you have to fight a *need I say it* chocobo NM to get the eggs as a drop. If thats the case then Gil sellers will have a field day if the eggs can be sold (especially the rare ones). None the less, I do think its a nifty idea. Wonder if they we re-introduce the Black Chocobo?

May have to excavate your egg like in the DRG quest.

Does look like a big gilhole with little to no return but should be fun anyways :)

Yeah, Phoenix MP could tell you about the massive death we incurred doing that. Well, if they still existed.

The eggs will probably be Rare/Ex. Genetics may be pre determined, but we will never know. Indeed I somehow dobut that we will be able to see any differences in the youngest chicks. I think we will be allowed to bond with our birds before we know what they will look like as adults.

Gil sink? I don't think so. This is a time sink and a draw. You will either want to or need to check the egg and chik every day. Brings you into Vanad'iel every RT day.

I expect the egg quest to be something that a L 20, or one party of L 20s can safely acomplish. It may be long and/or involved, but they WANT us to have our own sweet, adaorable, and well loved Chocos. All of us.

As to racing, the Gilseller, the Japanese player, and the guy wearring Maat's Cap may all lose to the L 20 who just got his bird. I expect the racecourse to be a humbling experience for the eleitests among us.

It's going to be very sad finding exp parties when this comes out because everyone will be holed up in some stable feeding birds, breeding birds, and cleaning out stables. :(

A video of the racecourse:

http://www.vanaguide.com/chocobocircuit.wmv

Feh.... a flat course with few if any obsticals, I would much prefer a steplechase kind of circut as in the Gold Saucer. Doesn't have to be cartoony, but should have twists, turns, things in the track to avoid and scrape folowers off on, that kind of thing.

This looks like a breeder's course, not a rider's course.

the race track is ok, but I too would prefer one like what they had in the gold saucer in ffVII.

I loved the music though, do you thind the guys at vanaguide just used the music from the choco race in ffVII or was that in the .dat files too?

This could only be the beginning. SE can always add more tracks later based on demand.

I just watched it another couple of times and I didn't seen any nation flags at all. Although it does look an aweful lot like the Sarutabaruta region.
