Here where I live, I love 98 Rock. Great station, and I mainly love it for the "Rob, Arnie, and Dawn show." Basically, it is a group of friends who have a talk show where they discuss any number of things. You have Rob, who is your stereotypical wealthy white male. He believes that since he was able to live on his own from the age of 18 and become a wealthy and successful businessman with only a high school diploma that everyone else can. Then there's Arnie, the "Every-man." He's a Texan who loves football, video games, and porn. Boy, does he love his porn! Then there's Dawn. She's a former party girl who now is obsessed with god and health food. Then there's Producer Nick who Rob and Arnie give a hard time to because he's your stereotypical gay man. He also loves Art house flicks, Transformers, and worships Ayn Rand like a goddess.

Then after Rob, Arnie and Dawn there's Pat Martin. He's the coolest guy there and he started when the station was created back in 1980 on the Graveyard shift. I know this because my cousin Ron grew up here in Sacramento and he has been a loyal listener of 98 Rock since its Genesis. Pat Martin used to do a show called "Friday Frenzy" which was full of skits and songs chocked full of toilet humor. One of the best was "Fag Talk" with a group of British men discussing cigarettes and saying things like "There's nothing like sucking on the butt of a fag." Sadly, after the FCC crackdown post Janet Jackson super bowl performance they took off Friday Frenzy. We still mourn its loss.

Then after Pat we have Craig the dog-faced boy who does a great show called N.U.B. where song requests are handled as follows: The first letter of the next song's title has to be the same as the last letter in the title of the previous song. For example: If someone requests Metallica's "Master of puppets" then the next song requested has to start with an S. Its a lot of fun and you get to hear stuff you rarely hear on the radio anymore.

Then after Craig is Joe Maumee who does three of the best (or worst) shows on 98 rock, depending on how they go: Mandatory Metallica (Nothing but Metallica for an hour!), Ten Demandments and Smash or Trash. Ten Demandments is simple: People e-mail Joe a list of ten songs they want to hear. He picks a couple of lists, people vote on them, and the one with the most votes wins. Smash or Trash is also a vote style show. A new song is played, and if it gets more Smash votes than Trash, it goes into rotation. Ten Demandments and Smash or Trash are where the good or bad part comes in. I've heard some incredible lists and some truly great songs get Smashed. Also, I have heard some godawful lists get the most votes and songs whose creators should be dragged out into the street and shot get Smashed while truly brilliant songs that deserve airplay get Trashed.

Then...Sunday mornings...My all-time favorite show on 98 Rock: Flux Capacitor! 4 hours of nothing but 80's hair metal! More than one person on the road has seen me singing along to "Livin' On A Prayer" or "Dr. Feelgood" when Flux Capacitor is on.
